Burberry Competition
The inspiration behind my competition came from looking at my heritage. Every generation in my family was part of something bigger, where they had to fight for their rights. My grandpa was in the army in the 1940's/50's. My grandparents were also part of Solidarity in the 80's, fighting to gain free elections. Now my parents are involved in protests happening in Poland. The project is about the wars we have to fight throughout our lives and therefore I questioned my own identity. What war will I fight in the future? The collection was inspired by military wear with a vintage feel, which are an essence in the Burberry style. I also experimented with minimal waste pattern cutting to suggest a sustainable approach to design that Burberry could pursue.
Minimal waste shirt of one of my shirt designs. The first result was mostly a good fit. All the seams were french-seamed to ensure a high-quality finish. I found out that I had to make the gusset underneath the armhole bigger, as it was too tight to accommodate an arm. I also had to change the manufacture process of the placket and cuff area for a better quality finish.
